Sunday Soup

Good Sunday Evening,

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone was able to break away this past week and get some well-deserved rest and relaxation!  One of my favorite books, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey talks about Habit 7 being “Sharpening the Saw”.  We all get a little worn down from time to time and if we want to try to remain consistent and do our best, we all need to take a break to recharge our batteries so that when we do return to work or school, we can all be a little sharper upon our return.  Remember, it is a marathon, not a sprint.

4th Quarter and PT Conferences!

It is hard to believe but we are starting the 4th Quarter and summer is right around the corner.  The days are getting longer and warmer.  At the HS level, this is a fresh start for students and remember to start strong.  Sometimes, when students return from break, they may have trouble getting back into their day to day routines.  The 4th quarter will start upon your return, ready or not!

Also, conferences will be consistently scheduled across the district this month on Wednesday, April 10th, from 12:30 to 3:30.  Please take advantage of this opportunity to reach out to your teacher or teachers to make a connection.  I believe strongly that parents that connect with their teachers and work together to provide the best learning environment for their child are the most successful.  Even if things are going well for your child right now, I would still encourage you to connect and start creating that personal bank account with your teacher…someday you may need to make a withdrawal.

Also, I understand the convenience of phone calls and zoom meetings as means to meet with your teacher for PT conferences.  However, if you can meet with your teacher in person, face to face, I believe that creates a much stronger bond than one that is created over a telephone or via a zoom meeting.  And, if you can’t make it between 12:30-3:30 on April 10th, still reach out to your teacher and see if they schedule 15 minutes at some other time, or on some other day.  What is most important, is that you meet, and create a common goal and pathway for your child’s academic, social and emotional success, and well-being.

Book Study – “Drive” by Daniel H. Pink:

Reminder, we will have our first meeting this week on Wednesday at 3:30 in the MS Library.  You should have read through Chapter 3 by now and completed all of the discussion questions for each chapter.  I will be collecting your work at the meeting.  Also, remember to keep up with your posts in the chat room.  You should have one comment and one response for each chapter.  Our meeting will last at least one hour but no more than 1.5 on Wednesday after school.

Bootcamp/Healthy Lifestyle Update:

Just like the students, it is going to be tough for me to get back into my weekly routine.  So, ready or not, we will get back at it this week, 6 am to 7 am, in the HS Fitness Center, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.  The best part about working out from 6am to 7am, is knowing that at 7am the toughest part of my day is now complete.  Go Chiefs!
