Sunday Soup

Good Sunday Evening,

Radio Interview this past Friday

I wanted to thank Mike Grisdale, Big Country 102.9, for interviewing me this past Friday morning.  The interview was taped and ran throughout the weekend, so I hope you had a chance to listen.  If you didn’t get a chance to hear it, we discussed some of the BIG projects for this summer.  As you know, the Fitness Center is DONE and up and running.  I am very happy to see the number of students using the facility.   We have MS and HS students in there daily, before school, during school, after school, and even on the weekends.  I believe this is going to make an immediate impact on helping our students create healthy lifestyle habits for life that will not only benefit them physically, but more important, mentally.  It will help them create strong social friendships while increasing their self-esteem and self-confidence at the same time, mission accomplished.  Good stuff…

NEXT, we will be replacing the HS bleachers which will be a big summer project.  As soon as school gets out in the spring, we will begin work.  The work will take almost two months, June and July.  We want to make sure that we start as soon as we can this spring so that we do NOT interfere with the start of fall athletics in August and the return to school process for students/parents in September.

3rd Quarter

The 3rd quarter ends on Friday!  If you are a HS student, get those grades up!  After Friday, there is no time machine that can take you back to turn in that late work or make up that test that could have positively impacted your final 3rd Quarter grades.  Please have a sense of URGENCY HS students and get it done this week!

FB Head Coach Interviews Continue…

This past Friday we were able to bring back two candidates to continue the interview process.  Our committee met with the candidates and took a deeper dive into their philosophies and experiences.  I am happy to report that both candidates did an excellent job and we are fortunate to have such quality candidates.  The committee will meet this week to continue discussing the candidates and doing our HW, checking references, and making calls.  Hopefully, we will be able to narrow it down to the top candidate soon.  Then, as soon as we get a commitment, and the support of the school board, we will host a FB coach/player meeting asap.  At this meeting, we will discuss what students should be doing this spring/summer to prepare for the upcoming fall 24-25 season.  We want our players to be put in the best position possible to experience success this fall and I will keep you posted.

Book Study – “Drive” by Daniel H. Pink:

I am going to be sending out Chapter 3 Discussion Questions on Monday morning.  As we discussed, once we have Chapter 3 complete, we will host our first face-to-face meeting.  I was hoping to have that meeting before Spring Break but I have decided to wait until after Spring Break.  I know most of you are focusing on your vacation plans this week and getting ready for a well-deserved break.  When we return from break we will set our first meeting date.   I am thinking/hoping we can meet after school on either Wednesday or Thursday the week we return.  I will keep you posted and please make sure to keep up with our Chat Group statements and comments too.

Bootcamp/Healthy Lifestyle Update:

I think you probably heard enough about my goals, although I have to admit that I fell short of accomplishing 100% of my goals last week.  However, that has now motivated me to try harder this week, no excuses.

Also, what I am enjoying most, is hearing about YOUR goals.  Some of you have shared them with me which is powerful.  It is not until you share your goals with someone else, do they become REAL.   Once they become real, once you share them, you now have someone checking up on you and holding you accountable.  Your support person/team can now help you accomplish your goals holding you accountable from week to week.  Especially, when you have a bad week as I did last week!

Remember, start small.  I spoke with a few of you who were very happy to get outside and enjoy the sun and brisk walk downtown Cheboygan.  That is great!  Get started today, start small, and keep challenging yourself each week to get a little better, week by week.  Baby steps…You will thank yourself this summer.
